Miniatures inspired by music and visual arts is an initiative of violinist and artistic director Tosca Opdam, in collaboration with the Toscata Foundation, Van Gogh Museum, Teylers Museum and Ceramics Museum Princessehof.
Miniatures includes a series of short online concerts that connect art works to musical themes. Each Miniature will be around 10 minutes and includes short introductions by the curator of said museum and by Tosca Opdam, followed by a concert with a variety in instrumentation. Per museum, a series of four miniatures will be recorded.
Miniatures I is online available and encloses information about the program and the performing musicians: miniatures-music-arts.com/van-gogh-museum-miniatures
The first series is inspired by a series of portraits of the recent exhibition In the picture - portraying the artist at the Van Gogh Museum Amsterdam.
Miniatures II will be released in four editions October 8, 15, 22, 29 2020: miniatures-music-arts.com/teylers-museum-miniatures
The second series is being recorded at Teylers Museum, the first and oldest museum of the Netherlands. It offers a musical connection with themes from the work of John Constable in the current retrospective exhibition. (until January 31 2021)
Miniatures III will be released November/December 2020. We will provide a timely update on the dates.
The third series will be recorded at the Ceramics Museum Princessehof Leeuwarden. The work of Maurits Escher, born at this former city palace, will be the connecting theme.
The series will remain accessible online: miniatures-music-arts.com
The collaboration with these three museums will offer the musicians an additional possibility, nationally and internationally, to reach a global audience.
During this pandemic, when these wonderful collections are not yet open for everybody to enjoy, museums are delighted with the possibility to extend the exhibited works in another artistic dimension.
